Review by Stefan: This is a five piece metal act from Luxembourg that was founded back in 2001. All started with a demo called “Asphyxiation” (2003) and an auto produced EP “Dead End Entry” (2005) followed by two full albums “Democadencia” (2008) and the self-produced “Earthcrush” (2011). Curious fact is that AR has already performed a lot, they played as support for Behemoth, Entombed, Kataklysm, Korn, Primal Fear, U.D.O., Soulfly, Channel Zero and many more. They won the local Wacken Metal Battle and reached position number three at the international final contest at the big W.O.A. Festival ! Through the years, the group did struggle with several line-up changes but there was no question of stopping, they even didn’t think about it. Other members were recruited and a next album was in sight, the release date of their third album is scheduled for December 14th ! I am pleased to introduce you to “Hollow Motion”, launched by French indie label Black N’ Purple Records.

I would showcase their way of playing as a mixture of old death metal and the more groovy directed thrash metal genre. Heavy loaded guitar riffs and equally heavy bass lines with thundering, hard pounding drums. The aggressive/death grunt singing service are alternated with clean vocals in a very excellent/joyful manner. Albums with only grunts do not immediately appeal to me, that’s why Abstract Rapture scores extra points because of the fact that they have a lot of variation in the vocal lines, good decision guys !

The eleven songs on the album to let hear that much attention has been paid to details. An album can be brought hard and aggressive but a well-guided briefing on musical details is very welcome as far as I am concerned, Abstract Rapture has tackled this well and mature ! When listening to all songs, I notice that the atmosphere is dark and sinister but there is also room for attractive melodic passages which only benefits the entire album. Being fan of refined solo guitars, I have to admit that I am very well spoiled. The shred guitarist on duty serves a whole load of finger-burnt solos, for sure this guy delivers me goosebumps !

The sound quality of “Hollow Motion” can be framed as well approved and achieves a high valuation factor… available as digipak edition of which everything looks quite professional ! I do not see myself as a big time death metal defender, but this one hell knows how to hit me, even if there are extreme situations on a regular basis. So I can close with a nice feeling and tell ya’ll that aficionados of the death metal/groovy thrash metal genre should definitely take a look at this new Abstract Rapture effort entitled “Hollow Motion”, you won’t be disappointed dear friends. My rating: 84/100 (Good in its own genre, recommended for those hooked on it)
