AVI ROSENFELD & MARCO BUONO: Sad Wings
Review by Jan Vervaeke: Israelian guitarplayer Avi, working with different musicians, is a very busy musician, these are albums nr. 38 & 39 ! Considering the “Sad Wings” effort, Avi has now Marco Buono singing all the presentable.
This album catches a bit less my attention, specially the more quiet songs, or the more quiet moments in it, which I like a bit less… but songwriting is really great all the time.
A song like ‘Supernova’ is absolutely outstanding though – and quite close in style to “Very Heepy Very Purple” series albums. The other compositions having more diverse influences, going from bluesy rock to classic rock. Maybe after getting used to this diversity on 1 album, it would have scored more for me. But still a great album anyway !
My rating: 69/100 (Rather moderate)
AVI ROSENFELD – Very Heepy Very Purple VIII
Christian Bertoncelli starring on the song ‘Mas Rapido Que La Luz’ with vocal lines that reminds me more than once of Tierra Santa, with their classic album “Legendario” (one of my all-time favos). But musically it’s surely more Malmsteen with quite a bit Uli J Roth. The Spanish vocals pleasing me really a lot, it gives the album an original touch.
From the other songs in English I like a lot ” Ice Storm”, “Right To Live”, “Seven Riders” , quite some other songs are great too. “Marching Out”/”Trilogy” (Malmsteen), Rainbow (Dio era), Axel Rudi Pell & UJ Roth are more than once undeniable references, besides Uriah Heep & Deep Purple of course !
Aficionados of all these mentioned artists, this 39th. !! output of Avi Rosenfeld is definitely a must have for you – great songwriting and well-skilled musicians! Additional info: https://www.facebook.com/AviRosenfeldBand/ / https://avirosenfeld.bandcamp.com/
My rating: 84/100 (Good in its own genre, recommended for those hooked on it)
